A statue of this man in Dublin was blown up on March 8th, 1966. Who was he?

Quizzo Tonight
A tripleheader tonight, folks, with no dominant teams at any of tonight’s venues, meaning victory is yours for the taking. We kick it off at Industry at 6:30 p.m. Two $3 local draughts for quizzo. Happy hour until 7pm with buck a shuck oysters, $3 local beers, $4 house wine, and $5 select cocktails. On to Birra at 8 p.m. with Carl B Sure. $1 off bottles and cans and $5 bar snacks. And we wrap it up at Bards at 9:15 p.m. $3 Lagers. Wild card round theme is Pacific Northwest. Hope to see ya tonight!
A Few Changes On the Way
Alright, now that we’ve gotten through Quizzo Bowl (which, unlike the Oscars, is a gala event that announces the correct winners), it’s time to make a few changes. The reason for these are several: for one, I’m taking on more work and more responsibility at the store, so I need to make time for that. Secondly, I’m getting more corporate gigs, and as you all know selling out to the man is what I’m all about. Finally and most importantly, I want another night to spend at home with my family, and this allows me to do so. (Over/under is a month after starting this schedule before my wife asks me to spend less time at home).
So here we go: starting next week, I will be moving Sidecar to Tuesdays at 8 p.m., and Carl will take over at O’Neals. For those of you who are unaware, Carl is already hosting at Birra on Thursdays at 8. (I’ll post the new schedule below). So we’ll still be rocking 8 JGT quizzes.
There will also typically be only one quiz written a week, starting next week. Occasionally, if 2-3 teams all request two quizzes and say they’re gonna play twice, we can break that rule. But 99.9% of teams play once a week, so this won’t be a change for just about anybody. But I just want to make sure it’s known.
As far as pics and scores, yes, I was a total slacker in the weeks leading up to Quizzo Bowl. I’m gonna do a huge photo dump on the Facebook page this week. Moving forward, there will be a bit more immediacy to the pics…I’ll be posting on twitter as soon as the game is over. You can follow me on twitter here. And yes, I know not everyone is on twitter. So don’t worry, Question of the Week will remain here on the website. Full schedule is below, starting next week. I will be hosting at O’Neals tonight:
TUESDAY
- 8 p.m. O’Neals (w/ Carl)
- 8 p.m. Sidecar
- 10:15 p.m. City Tap House
WEDNESDAY
- 6:15 p.m. Locust Rendezvous
- 8:30 p.m. Founding Fathers
THURSDAY
- 6:30 p.m. Industry
- 8 p.m. Birra (with Carl)
- 9:15 p.m. Bards
Sidecar Quizzo Tonight

The Quizzo Bowl Video Round w/ Chip Chantry
After the quiz, a lot of people were talking about the Chip Chantry round, so I thought we’d share online. You can watch it above, and answers are posted after the jump.

Quizzo Bowl Update
We are sold out completely. If anyone cancels last minute (hey, it’s happened before) I’ll get back in touch with teams who have contacted me in the order they reached out.
For teams that do have tickets, here’s the deal: doors open at 7 p.m. It’s first come, first serve on tables, so the earlier you get there the better shot you have of picking your table. Action will start at 8 p.m. And you know me: I LIKE TO BE PROMPT! No, but seriously, I’d like to start as close to 8 as possible, so get in there and get your butts in your seats.
As far as the theme, I would definitely expect some British questions, but the entire quiz will not be about England (or the British Invasion). It’ll be across the board, lots of topics, a few special guests, and a special Chip Chantry video round.
And a reminder that this will not be a usual 1 hour, 45 minute quiz. These things tend to run about 3 hours, 15 minutes (though no guarantees on time either way). But that’s fine: it’s a Saturday night, it’s a big night out for all of us. Settle in, relax, and as we say down South: “kick it on back”. The band is gonna be great, the questions should be fun, several gift certificates to give away, Fastball Bob will be there, it’s going to be ridiculous.
As far as an afterparty, I figured that this year we’d keep it simple: we’ll just move it upstairs. Instead of all trying to take a cab somewhere and gulp some drinks down before last call, why don’t we just go upstairs at World Cafe and chill for a couple of hours?
The trophy has been picked up, the questions are done, uh, getting there, and I think we’re gonna have a fine time. If you’re gonna tweet about the event tonight, use the hashtag #Quizzobowl. I’ll be tweeting here today and tonight before, during, and after the event. If you have any questions or concerns, post them below in comments. Thanks! -JGT
