Black Sheep Quizzo Cancelled!
Upon further review, we decided to cancel Black Sheep quizzo tonight, since the night before Thanksgiving is probably going to be a zoo there. As of right now, we are still having it at Locust Rendezvous at 6:15, hosted by the Sandman, so if you were gonna play at the Sheep, just head on down to the Vous instead. If anything changes I’ll let you know.
Sad News
I hate to be the bearer of bad news right before the holidays, but the quizzo community lost a dear friend this past week. Trevor Pierson (above, right) of We Got Nothin’, a regular team at O’Neals, passed away this week. Trevor was known for being the Kingpin of a 2-3 man team that often knocked off teams of 8, and was almost always in the running. He also would growl down the bar when he thought my questions weren’t asked in a clear enough fashion, and he was quick to commiserate when Uncle Chollie would make a questionable decision that got my blood pressure up. Here is a remembrance of Trev from a couple of guys that hung out with him at O’Neals: In addition to being a great friend, Trevor intelligence’s never failed to impress. He’d regularly finish the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle in less than an hour. He could single-handedly compete against teams of six or eight people in Quizzo. Trevor knew something about everything. He could tell you that Catfish Hunter was the last Major League pitcher to have 30 or more complete games in a season or that James Madison was the President historians called the Father of the Constitution. Trevor was the quintessential Renaissance man. (Click below to continue)
Anybody wanna do a bowling/quizzo event?
Hey gang, I was going to do a fundraiser for my Little League at the St. Monica’s bowling alley on Saturday the 6th of December, but we decided to move it back to January. But I still have dibs on the 6th, unless I decide to give it up. I’ve heard some people clamoring for a Winter quizzo event, and this could be possible. I know it’s kind of last minute, but hey, this is me we’re talking about. Anyways, my thought would be this: 12 or so teams, like 6 people per team. Bowl a few frames, ask a few questions, bowl, quizzo, bowl, quizzo until we’re done with four rounds and ten frames. Then we add scores from your bowling to your quizzo scores to come up with a winner. A couple hundred bucks and a trophy for the winner, we get a couple of kegs, we have a big old time. But I gotta make sure people are interested, because it costs $600 to rent the room. So I’d probably charge about $15-20 a head, and that would include all you can drink and any money left over I’ll throw at my League. Let me know if that sounds interesting.
We Need More Mysteries
Our first two short mysteries have been major successes, if by major success you mean we’ve wasted a lot of time doing stupid s***. But we are on the lookout for our third mystery/adventure. Perhaps a Christmas mystery of some sort? Anyways, we need ideas. If you have any mysteries, post them below. And if you haven’t seen the first two, I highly recommend them.
Turkey-Tacular
Here’s the deal for this week. I am hosting tonight at O’Neals (8 p.m.) and at Bards (10 p.m.). Same bat time, same bat channel. Then the Sandman is hosting tomorrow at Locust Rendezvpous (6:15 p.m.) and Black Sheep (8:30 p.m.). The questions will have a general Thanksgivingy theme to them, but pretty loosely based.
Question of the Week
Just Because…
You need to see this, if you haven’t already. It’s a mix of the Pietasters and Pat Robertson. The guy on the far right behind the piano is absolutely amazing. The video was shot in the early 80s, and here is an interview with the lead singer today. Alright, I have to head out to handle a “situation”. I’ll let you know how it goes once it is resolved.
