Friday Five: February 12, 2021

Every Friday, I share local places I’ve eaten, great things I’ve read, the best watering holes I’ve visited and great local music I’ve been listening to. Sign up for the JGT mailing list to get them direct to your inbox. In the meantime, check out a couple of this week’s five below.

Joe's Pizza

Where I’m Eating

You simply can’t go wrong with Joe’s Pizza on the corner of 16th and Sansom. Solid pizza from a Sicilian family that moved here 30 years ago and opened up shop. Glad to have them in Philly! Click to watch a short interview with one of the owners.

Confessions of a Second Story Man - book by Allen Hornblum

What I’m Reading

Last night while hosting for Lambda, AJ brought up the 2nd Story Men, who were part of the K&A Gang in the first half of the 20th century. Thanks to author Allen Hornblum they weren’t a Philly story that slipped through the cracks of time. He managed to interview several before they died and wrote a book about it. You can read a passage in this 2005 City Paper piece.
