As far as artists this week, we’ll wrap up with a Philadelphia portrait artist named Thomas Sully. Born in England, he moved to Philly when he was 22 and would remain in Philly until his death at age 89. He painted portraits of many well known military and political figures of his day, including John Quincy Adams and Marquis de Lafayette, and his portrait of Andrew Jackson is the one seen on the $20 bill. Above is his portrait of Thomas Jefferson, which hangs in the Rotunda at UVA.
