Action starts at O’Neals at 8 p.m. All new questions tonight. Winning team gets a $50 gift cert. If the winners can score over 120 points, they’ll get a $50 bonus.
Carl B Sure, meanwhile, will be hosting at Alla Spina tonight at 8 p.m. $2 off drafts and deep dish pizza. A great spot to quiz.
On to Tap House at 10:15, where we will again be under the stars. It was a beautiful night last Tuesday, and it should be just as nice tonight. There are $175 worth of prizes up for grabs, and it is anybody’s ballgame (I think a score of 76 won last week’s quiz).
We had a question about Goya last week, so I thought I’d post the picture above, one of his most famous works called El Tres de Mayo de 1808. It is considered a very modernist painting in that almost all artists previously had depicted war as something glorious, whereas this painting showed the horrors of it. When Napoleon appointed his brother King of Spain, many Spanish revolted on May 2nd, 1808. The next day, hundreds of those protestors were rounded up and shot by the French. You can read more about that story here. This painting is currently found in the Museu del Prado in Madrid.
