Quizzo Tonight

Screen shot 2015-09-17 at 10.55.00 AM

We start at 15th and South and 9th and Wharton at 6 p.m. for our first ever #Popquizzo. Gonna be a really awesome event. Tons of video questions and a few wrinkles as well. Teams of up to 5 can play. Hope to see some of you guys there.

On to Bards at 9:15ish, where Carl B. Sure (who is also hosting at 9th and Wharton at 6:30) will be hosting.

Quizzo Tonight

We kick it off at the Vous at 6:15. Like we always do about this time. On to Founding Fathers at 8:30 p.m. Last week was an example of the old Yogi Berra saying, “Nobody goes there anymore. It’s too crowded.” After months of packed tight, it was pretty quiet last week. Let’s pack it back up this week. A food theme for the music and wild card rounds. See ya tonight!

No Quiz Tonight and Other Updates on a Wacky Week

Ok, so we’ve got an interesting week coming up. First of all, there’s no quiz at North Star or Sidecar tonight due to the Birds game.

Also, as you can see below, I’m hosting a huge event at the South Street Beer Garden on Thursday night (and Carl B. Sure will be hosting at the 9th and Reed Beer Garden). That means no quiz at Industry…however, there WILL be quizzo at Bards Thursday night, though it may start a few minutes late.

There will only be one quiz at the regular quizzos this week, but obviously a whole new quiz at the beer gardens on Thursday (you guys should come, it’s gonna be pretty cool.) Anyways, here is the schedule for the week:

MONDAY

  • No quizzes

TUESDAY

  • O’Neals 8 p.m.
  • City Tap 10:15 p.m.

WEDNESDAY

  • Locust Rendezvous 6:15 p.m.
  • Founding Fathers 8:30 p.m.

THURSDAY

  • Pop-up Beer Gardens 6:30 p.m.
  • Bards 9:15 p.m.

PHS Harvest Fest Kicks Off With Two Quizzes on Thursday!

Welcome

On Thursday, September 17th, Carl B. Sure and I will be hosting two simultaneous quizzos as the kickoff event of the Philadelphia Horticultural Society’s Harvest Fest. I’ll be hosting at the Beer Garden on 15th and South, while Carl will be located on the beer garden on 9th and Wharton. It will be a #Popquizzo, meaning the questions will primarily be pop culture related. Here are a few basic details, with more coming in the next few days:

Action starts at 6:30. I’d suggest you get there early. There’s going to be a lot of promotion of this, and the weather is looking perfect, so I suspect we’ll have really good crowds. Doors open at 5, so I’d try to come by soon after that.

Like I stated earlier, the quiz will be questions primarily about Pop Culture. TV, movies, music, and perhaps a few surprises along the way. Going to be doing more video rounds than we’ve ever done at quizzo before, so it’ll definitely be a lot different and more visual than our typical modus operandi.

Max team size is 5. We may allow a bit of wiggle room if need be, but there will only be 5 prizes awarded for the top 3 places, so if you’re aiming for the sky, I suggest you hold your team to 5.

The event is sponsored by the Philadelphia Horticultural Society, who I’ve worked with before and am thrilled to be working with again. I think this is going to be a really cool event. Hope to see you good folks there!

Celebrate the Ruben Amaro Jr Firing Tonight at Quizzo!

amaro

Our long citywide nightmare is over. Ruben Amaro is gone. We can LIVE again! I expect there to be a lot of hugs and a few tears tonight at quizzo, which starts at Industry at 6:30 p.m. Terrific hamburgers, $3 craft beers, and rumors of a WILD GIRAFFE RUNNING AMOK*.

On to Bards at 9:15 p.m. These are two bars where anyone has a shot at winning. Great night to score a win. And there’s a music round you’re going to love to hate. Hope to see ya there!

*A rumor I just now started. Please spread it.

Tripleheader Tonight

Kick it off at Comcast at 5:30 p.m. On to O’Neals at 8 p.m. Any team that gets over 110 points and wins gets a $100 gift cert. We end up at City Tap House at 10:15. It was a rockin’ good time last week. Let’s keep it going. The wild card round is based on the question of the week and the audio round is a “Musical Covers” round. See ya tonight!

Question of the Week

petersen_automotive_museum_dale_car_1974

In 1974, a woman named Geraldine Elizabeth Carmichael created a company called the 20th Century Motor Car Corporation and unveiled their flagship car, a three wheeled yellow sports car that got 70 mph. After raising money from investors, Carmichael disappeared, and it was discovered that the car was made primarily of wood and had a grass cutter carburetor. What was the three wheel car known as?
