A Little Light Reading

If you missed it yesterday, please be sure to check out my latest in the Post. It’s a piece on the new Pizza Museum that’s gonna open in Fishtown next month.

In sports, here is a pretty crazy story I stumbled across yesterday about how two events that happened within a week of each other in 1913 completely destroyed what might have otherwise been a Phillies dynasty.

Be sure to follow me on twitter, and you can follow my quizzo goings on on facebook. Or, if you want to put up with all of the crazy nonsense I post regularly on facebook, friend me on it.

Oh yeah, and remember….I do private parties. Wanna have quizzo for a wedding, a birthday party, or a corporate event, hit me up at johnny@johnnygoodtimes.com.

Quizzo Tonight

We kick it off at Locust Rendezvous at 6:15 p.m., where the Jams have a pretty remarkable streak going. They have won every other week since April 14th. THey won last week, which means they’re due for a loss. Can your team top them? $2 McSorley’s Pints. That’s a ridiculously awesome deal. On to the Black Sheep at 8, where Duane’s World has won every other week since May 11th. Wild card round has to do with film. Hope to see ya tonight!

Cheap Margaritas, Free Phils Tix Tonight

Let’s play a little quizzo, drink a few beers, and watch Game 1 of the NBA Finals. We start at O’Neals at 8 p.m. On to the City Tap House at 10:15 p.m. At CTH, I’m gonna be giving away a couple of Phillies tix to the June 23rd game against the Tampa Bay Rays. We had a blast last week at  CTH playing outdoors, but I don’t think the weather is going to do us the same favor this week. That’s alright, the good news is that we’ll have the Game on. Speed round on Europe. That’s all I can tell you. See ya tonight!

Check out the piece I did this week for Philly Mag. I think you’re really gonna dig it. The guy I wrote about, Weston, is seen in the above photo.

All of you baseball/wrestling fans have to read this. A gentleman who looks an awful lot like Fastball Pitcher Bob Gutierrez (it’s not him, though, obviously. This guy has a different name) wrote a hilarious piece on wrestling Sabermetrics.

And we’ve finished up our Most Underrated Players of all time on Philly Sports History. See if you agree with our Top 15.

Norm MacDonald Played Quizzo Last Night

Fairly quiet night of quizzo at the Bards last night. About 30 people playing, pretty chill night. And then Norm MacDonald, who is performing at Helium all weekend, decided to swing by. He played with my buddy John McKeever (who you may recognize as part of Bird Text, the dudes who did Real Househusbands of Philadelphia and My Girl Got Burrelled), who is hosting at Helium this week, and John’s wife. They actually did pretty damn well, finishing tied for 2nd. Therefore we had a tiebreaker for second…done with Rock Paper Scissors. Norm’s dreams of winning the $20 gift certificate for second place were denied however, as he lost a best two out of three. Before he left he came over to me and said, “Hey man, that was a lot of fun,” then gave me a fist bump. Pretty freaking cool.
