There is much talk about Philly Live!, the entertainment venue that is being proposed down by the sports arenas. On the one hand, it would be a lot of fun to have somewhere to hang out after a Phils win (or a Sixers loss) besides McFaddens, but something tells me this place is probably going to offer me a Hard Rock and a TGI Fridays as my other options. One of my favorite things about this city is that usually for a business to survive here, it needs to have some Philly favor, and I see this thing as a homogenized corporate behemoth filled with the GAP, McDonald’s, and Starbucks. Of course, I’m not the demographic they are hoping to reach, so maybe this thing will work out after all. And hey, they’ve done a nice job in the stadiums of promoting local spots (McNally’s at CB Park, Johnny Brendas at the Linc, for instance.), so they could prove me wrong. I hope so. What are your thoughts?
