Ugly American First Half Stats

ugly

Here ya go. Pretty impressive work done by L. Ron Hubbard’s Diabetics, placing 23 out of 27 possible weeks. Of course, with the JGTSI going on, it’s been a lot harder to score a win at the UA. It’s been mad packed lately.

Black Sheep Results From First Half of the Season

blacksheep

Here they are. The top money earners and record holders at Black Sheep through July 1st. Duane’s World is certainly the top team at the Sheep, though Newman’s Own has really made a name for themselves these past few weeks. Catdog, meanwhile, has to get back to their winning ways if they are gonna make it into the Invitational.

Question of the Week

What Irish writer famously said, “He was a bold man who ate the first oyster”?

JGT Summer Invitational Scores After 3 Weeks

jgtinvite3

Here they are folks.  Steak Em Up has a comfortable lead, but then things get interesting. Mostly usual suspects at the top, but there are a number of teams just outside the Top 10 (actually 11) looking in. And with a several more wrinkles in the weeks to come, I think we could see a lot of movement in the Top 10 of this leaderboard.

First Half Stats at Locust Rendezvous

vousHere’s the stats from the first half of 2010 at the Vous. The Jams continue to be the class of the bar, but Magnus is putting up really good numbers thus far this year as well. The Inglorious Barristers, meanwhile, seem to have a condition I like to call “the Narcotyzing Dysfunktion” (a knack for 2nd place finishes.)

First Half Stats at O’Neals

onealsHere are the records, top scores, records, winning %, and winning streaks at O’Neals this year through June 30th. The Savage Ear is by far the most successful team this year, especially with Ivan the Trivial dropping out of contention. Lambda has good numbers, but merely used O’Neals as a warm up for Quizzo Bowl…they haven’t played since April. If L. Ron Hubbard continues to show up at O’Neals, however, I think they could start making a run at the Ear.

Midway Point Totals

Johnnie of the Duane’s World Crew is a man who loves numbers. I kind of like them too, so when he volunteered to keep track of quizzo winners and losers, I was all over it. He added up everything through the first six months of 2010, and I just plugged it into Google Docs. Today I’ll post several bars, and tomorrow I’ll post more. Enjoy! (I’ll have stats for the JGTSI up as soon as I hear back from Mike Minion about last week’s top finishers at the Westbury.)

We End Week 3 With a Tripleheader!

jgtinvite3It’s a rarity these days in competitive sports (such as quizzo), but we are keeping the tripleheader alive tonight!  Three chances to earn points in the JGT Summer Invitational. We kick it off at Locust Rendezvous at 6 p.m.* The first Thursday quizzo in Vous history. What regulars are coming? Who knows?  This could be a great chance to score points. On to the Ugly American at 8 p.m., where things have been off the hook for the past two weeks. I would definitely either make a reservation or get there early to get yourself a seat. Action starts at 8 p.m. Finally, we wrap it up at the Bards at 10:15 p.m. It’s starting to look like the good ol’ days at the Bards again with some big crowds lately. Want to thank everybody who came in on Tuesday and brought the place back to life after several quiet Tuesdays. Let’s keep the party going tonight.

*If anything changes between now and quizzo, I will let you know here on the site, but it looks like all systems go for tonight at the ‘Vous.

Question of the Week

U1331685-8

In 1960, George Steinbrenner (above, shaking hands with Jerry Lucas) became owner of this ABL team, the first pro sports team he ever owned. He lost a lot of money when the team (and league) folded in 1962.

The JGT Summer Invitational Scoreboard

jgtinvite3

Here’s the scoreboard after two weeks. There are some intriguing developments. No surprises at the Top, as Steak Em Up and Duane’s World hold the top 2 spots. But then things get interesting, as Different Name Every Week and Newman’s Own are in 3rd and 4th place. The top 10 teams are in blue (actually, the top 11, as their are 4 teams tied for 8th). Remember, the Top 10 teams have a shot at the extra $200 drawing, on top of the $400 the top 25 teams can earn by winning the Invitational on August 15th. The most important thing to note, however: even if you haven’t scored or haven’t played yet, you are still right in the hunt. As you’ll notice, 1 measly point puts you right in the mix, as the 25th place team right now has a grand total of 1. Furthermore, you can triple your chance of points on any given week. Remember you can score points tonight at the Westbury, you can score points by playing on Tuesday or Wednesday, and then you can play at an all new quiz on Thursday. Best chance to to score points? No doubt, it’s Tuesday at Bards. We’ve had way fewer teams playing at Bards on Tuesdays than anywhere else.  Therefore your chances of finishing in the Top 3 are terrific. And of course, if you can knock off Steak Em Up on Tuesday, you’re going home with $85. There is currently a $45 bounty on them. And before you go whining about how unbeatable they are, keep in mind that they lost by 17 on Thursday.
